Achille Mbembe Challenge, a design competition on burning hot issues

Young people from the Netherlands, Flanders and beyond are challenged to think creatively about burning issues

They can now apply for the ‘Achille Mbembe Challenge’. This design competition is open to students from mbo, hbo, universities in the Netherlands and Flanders. Foreign students are also invited to participate. The competition focuses not only on intellectual ability, but also on the creativity, practical skills and communicative strength of the participants. Teams of up to four members work together on innovative designs that contribute to a more just and equal world. Students are encouraged to form multidisciplinary teams.

The design question will focus on three themes: activism and climate, restitution of (stolen) heritage, and digital colonization. Laureate Achille Mbembe’s thinking will inspire the design. Teachers and participants will receive guidance from the project team throughout the process, allowing them to develop their idea with valuable support. Teachers and students can find more information through the specific leaflets for their educational level.
